Sami Bayly

Sami is an award-winning children’s book author and illustrator who is currently based in Newcastle, NSW. 

After studying a bachelor of Natural History Illustration at The University of Newcastle, she has published five books. Three of which are part of The Illustrated Encyclopaedia series, while her latest two are of a new series, How We Came To Be. She loves to celebrate the science behind why animals look the ways they do, introducing fun evolution stories for kids across the globe. 

She can’t wait to see how weird and wonderful animals will continue to inspire her in the future.

Talk and Workshop details

Talk: Strange animals on our planet: Shocking! (Yrs 7-9) &

(Yrs 4-6)

A fun session that will be packed with information about some of the strangest animals the planet has to offer. This will touch on information that is somewhat shocking (like tongue-eating parasites) but incredibly interesting and valuable to learn about. A quiz will be included about animal collective nouns, and a short drawing activity will be involved.

Workshop: Junior Scientific Illustrators - here we come! (Yrs 4-6)

This will be an in depth drawing workshop for younger students who like to draw. There is no 'skill' required to participate, as we will be learning the basics. But some challenging drawing/colouring in tips will be shared. There will also be a drawing activity towards the end where they must draw a mystery creature from my description only. Students will leave with two finished pieces.
